Program Overview
This program equips students with critical thinking, research, and analytical skills applicable across various career paths. History majors gain a deep understanding of American and world history while developing expertise in historical research and writing.
Major Requirements
Students must complete 36 semester credits, including:
Core Courses (12 SH)
American History I: Colonial Times to 1877 (3 SH)
American History II: 1877 to the Present (3 SH)
Historical Research Methodology / Historiography (3 SH)
Senior Thesis in History (3 SH)
Elective Categories
Group 1 – Foundations in History (6 SH)
Choose two courses from the following:
Modern World History (3 SH)
Western Civilization I: Beginnings to 1400 (3 SH)
Western Civilization II: 1400 to 1815 (3 SH)
Group 2 – Intermediate History (9 SH)
Select nine semester credits from any 200-level history courses
Group 3 – Advanced History (9 SH)
Select nine semester credits from any 300-level history courses.
