Applied Technical Skills

Develop hands-on technical expertise. Our 11-month evening HVACR Technician Certification Program—offered through the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3)—prepares working professionals to enter or advance in the HVACR industry.

Applied Professional Skills

Enhance your workplace communication and leadership abilities. Our upcoming Conflict and Negotiation Skills Mastery Module is a fully online, non-credit course ideal for professionals seeking advancement or recent graduates building their resumes. Participants earn a certificate of completion.

Advanced Skills for Teachers

Teachers can expand their expertise through graduate-level Professional Development Programs offered by the Center for Professional Development. Courses—taught by experienced K–12 educators—support license renewal and classroom innovation, with flexible options including pass/fail credit and independent study.

Lake Erie College’s Center for Professional Development supports the ongoing needs of K–12 educators through nearly 100 graduate-level professional development (PD) courses.

Whether you’re an administrator renewing your license, a teacher earning graduate credits to move up the pay scale, or a licensed educator not currently teaching, Lake Erie offers flexible, relevant courses designed for you.

Courses are taught by experienced educators, all with master’s degrees or higher, who bring real classroom expertise to every session. Our technology courses focus on practical strategies for integrating tech to enhance teaching and learning—all offered at a competitive tuition rate with personalized support.

About Dr. Rothwell

Greg Rothwell is currently the Program Director of Education & Professional Studies. Previously, he has served as assistant and head principal of Follansbee Middle School and Brooke High School, in Brooke County, West Virginia. Before his career in administrative positions, Greg taught history at Brooke High School. During his tenure at Brooke High School, Greg served on numerous committees including groups focusing on curriculum and technology, establishing many Advanced Placement courses, and academic-based competition teams.

Also, Greg has served in many leadership roles, including the Brooke High School faculty senate chair, social studies department chair, member of the school leadership team, local school improvement council, and a regional advisory committee for professional development. As a leader, Greg has established an emphasis on STEM education at the district level, working with curriculum directors and faculty. After receiving grant money, Greg and his team traveled throughout the country to learn about STEM-related educational techniques and technologies. Greg earned his Ph.D. from Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, studying Instructional Management and Leadership. His dissertation title is "An Updated Look at Adopters and Non-Adopters of Educational Technology Among Teachers in a Rural Setting". He has also earned an M.A in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University (IA), an M.A in Educational Leadership from Wheeling Jesuit University (WV), and a B.A. in Secondary Education with an emphasis on social studies from West Liberty University (WV).

Our five-semester program, built on the nationally recognized ESCO Institute curriculum, provides the technical skills and certifications employers value most. Students train in a state-of-the-art HVAC suite, gain experience with modern controls and technology, and receive entry-level tools valued at over $1,000 upon certification.

The TESOL / ESOL Endorsement at Lake Erie College prepares licensed educators to effectively support students whose first language is not English. This 18-credit endorsement program equips teachers with the knowledge, skills, and cultural understanding necessary to meet the needs of English learners in increasingly diverse classrooms.

Through coursework in second language acquisition, linguistics, culturally responsive teaching, and assessment of English learners, educators learn how to design instruction that promotes language development and academic success. The program emphasizes practical classroom strategies, legal and policy considerations, and research-based approaches to teaching English learners across grade levels.
The endorsement may be added to an existing Ohio teaching license, allowing educators to work more effectively with multilingual students and support schools serving diverse populations.
