Lake Erie College Department of Theatre Spring Show: Ray Bradbury’s “Kaleidoscope”

The Lake Erie College Department of Theatre proudly presents Ray Bradbury’s Kaleidoscope, running for one weekend only from March 27-30 in the CK Rickel Theatre at Royce Hall for Fine and Performing Arts. This production is part of a special weekend showcase featuring an array of performances, including famous monologues, original short plays, and one work making its American debut. Adapted from Bradbury’s acclaimed 1951 book The Illustrated Man, Kaleidoscope tells the gripping story of a rocket explosion that leaves its crew drifting in space. A blend of humor and horror, the play explores human resilience and existential reflection. The talented cast includes Vincent Vitale, Alice Madsen, Sean Scott, Leizett Garay, Nicholas Donlan, Roger Principe, Scott DaDante, and Chris Lambert. The production is directed by Lake Erie College Professor of Theatre, Jerry C. Jaffe. Cast member Leizett Garay describes the experience as “very emotional” and says she “loves where it all goes.”

Staged for the first time in the United States, Eerie and the Hump is a thought-provoking play by Canadian playwright Larry Lamont. This mysterious piece stars Vincent Vitale and Lake Erie College alumna Margaret Rose Gatzke. The play is directed by alumna Julie Harter, who also serves as the event’s Technical Director. Additional works include an original comedic play by Dr. Jaffe titled Romantically Loopy, as well as excerpts from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice and The Bacchae by Euripides, which features Addy Mager and Ms. Gatzke in a compelling debate between the Greek god Dionysios and King Pentheus.

The lighting design is by Paul Gatzke. The stage manager for the production is Kyle Meyer. The backstage crew includes Mikaylah Bingham, Frank Greico, and Paul Greico.
