QUESTION:
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ROOM ASSIGNMENT?

ANSWER: You will receive your room assignment toward the end of June once you have made your deposit. If you do not receive your room assignment, please contact the Director of Residence Life at housing@lec.edu. Due to limited amount of space, make sure to submit your deposit soon!

QUESTION:
HOW DO YOU MATCH ROOMMATES?

ANSWER: Roommates are matched by the following preferences: music, major, sport, study habits, noise level, room cleanliness, etc., so please make sure that you fill out your housing application honestly. You will receive the contact information for your roommate once s/he has been assigned. We encourage you to contact your roommate to get to know him/her and to find out what you should bring with you for the fall semester.

At times, people seem as if they match perfectly on paper, but they may be complete opposites once they meet. As a student at Lake Erie College, it is an expectation that you make attempts to compromise and form agreements with your roommate. Students are unable to request a room change until after the 2nd week of classes.

WHEN AND WHERE DO I GO TO CHECK IN?

ANSWER: New students will receive an email regarding move in procedure. Typically:
Ritter/Fowler Halls = Fowler
Dickinson/Andrews = Dickinson
Founders Court, Sessions, Paige = Student Life Office unless otherwise directed

QUESTION:
CAN I BRING MY PET?

ANSWER: For health and sanitation reasons, the only pets allowed in residence halls are fish (maximum 20-gallon tank).

QUESTION:
IS THERE A PHONE IN MY ROOM?

ANSWER: No- Due to the increase in cell phone usage.
If you use a cell phone, please be sure to provide that number to the Student Life Office so we know how to reach you.

QUESTION:
WHAT SIZE SHEETS DO I NEED?

ANSWER: The mattresses are extra long twin which measure 36" x 80". K-Mart & Wal-mart sell extra long twin sheets and usually have displays up in August for "Back-to-School" sales.

You have the option of ordering your bedding online and having it shipped to LEC, making one less item to pack!

QUESTION:
WHAT IS FURNISHED IN MY ROOM?

ANSWER: Each student room is furnished with a bed, mattress, chest of drawers, wardrobe or closet, desk, desk chair and window blinds. All furniture that is in the room must stay in the room.

QUESTION:
MAY I BRING MY CAR TO COLLEGE?

ANSWER: All students are permitted to bring a car to campus. All students must register cars during the first week of classes. When you check in, you will have the opportunity to register your car. Security Office has parking passes for residents and commuter students.

QUESTION:
HOW SHOULD I HAVE MY MAIL ADDRESSED?

ANSWER: Tell all your friends and relatives to address your mail as follows:

*It is imperative that the address does NOT read P.O. BOX. These words and incorrect zip code will misdirect your mail by the U.S. Post Office causing a delay in mail service.

*Students may get their mail combinations during check-in or at the mail room located in the basement of College Hall.

QUESTION:

IS A DAMAGE DEPOSIT REQUIRED?

ANSWER: While LEC does not collect an initial damage deposit, we do charge student accounts for damages incurred throughout the semester. This sometimes includes charges for common area damage when the person responsible is not known. It will be your responsibility as a student to keep the residence halls free from vandalism and intentional damages.

QUESTION:
CAN I GET AN E-MAIL ACCOUNT?

ANSWER: Sure! E-mail accounts are provided to all students at no cost. During your orientation and check-in, information will be given out about your account. Lake Erie students are required to check their LEC email account on a regular basis.

QUESTION:

CAN I USE MY COMPUTER TO ACCESS THE INTERNET FROM MY RESIDENCE HALL ROOM?

ANSWER: All halls are equipped with network connections with full Internet access.

QUESTION:
WHAT IS THE ALCOHOL POLICY?

ANSWER: Students who are 21 years of age are permitted to consume beer in the confines of the private rooms of residence halls with the door closed (as long as everyone in the room is 21 or older). Kegs and beer balls are strictly prohibited. No open containers, carriers, or cups of alcohol are permitted in any lounge or public area of the residence halls. Students are not permitted to use alcohol containers as decorations (they may not be displayed in windows, etc). Each student will be held responsible for his/her personal behavior, as well as the behavior of guests. Drinking games (beer pong, quarters, etc) are strictly prohibited due to the fact that they encourage drinking large amounts of alcohol in a short period of time.

QUESTION:
HOW CAN I FIND OUT THE DIMENSIONS AND COLOR OF MY ROOM IN ORDER TO DECORATE AND BUY AN AREA RUG?

ANSWER: Room sizes do vary. Approximate size is 12'X12'. Rooms are painted white or off-white. Summer camps and conferences occupy the rooms during the summer so individual tours of the room may not be available. Decorating your room is an excellent opportunity to work with your roommate and by waiting, you can color coordinate the decor.
Fowler/Ritter/Andrews offer additional closet space that is roughly three feet by three feet.

QUESTION:
WHAT IS THE VISITATION POLICY?

ANSWER: Visitation hours are:
Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. -12 midnight
Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 a.m.
Residential students are required to obtain an overnight guest form from the front desk of the student life office before 12:00 p.m. on the Friday before the visit.

QUESTION:

HOW ARE THE RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS STAFFED?

ANSWER: All halls have a professional Residence Director. Each RD supervises the day-to-day operations which include supervising the Resident Assistant (RA) staff, handling conduct situations, as well as promoting social and educational programming for the hall. In addition to the RD supervision, you will have the most contact with the RAs. The RAs are responsible for a designated section of a floor. We select and train upper-class "campus leaders" to serve as counselor, administrator, disciplinarian, activity director, role model and friend.

QUESTION:
HOW SAFE IS CAMPUS?

ANSWER:

All residence halls are locked 24 hours a day. Only residents of a particular hall will have key access. Guests must be escorted at all times while in the building. At least one member of the Residence Life Staff is on duty after 5p.m. daily and there is coverage twenty-four hours a day on weekdays. During the weekday, all concerns should be directed towards the Student Life Office. The campus escort service is available by calling Security at (440) 375-7575.

To ensure that our security measures are fully effective, you must assist us by locking your room door, un-propping entrance doors, escorting guests to your room, and reporting suspicious activities or persons to Security.

QUESTION:
ARE ANY PROVISIONS MADE FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS?

ANSWER: LEC has a large number of vegetarians and students with special dietary needs. Metz Food Service is very accommodating to our students and are willing to work with any student in order to provide healthy food choices. Students with hectic schedules can also work with Metz to make sure they have the accommodations that they need, i.e. Equestrian students with early morning classes.

*All students who reside in campus resident halls are required to have a meal plan.

QUESTION:
DOES THE COLLEGE PROVIDE PERSONAL PROPERTY INSURANCE?

ANSWER: Students are encouraged to obtain "Renter's Insurance" if not covered under a home policy. Insurance for your personal property is NOT available through the College.
However, information is available through the Student Life Office.

QUESTION:
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN CAMPUS LIFE RIGHT AWAY?

ANSWER: During the first month of class, there will be an activities fair. All student organizations will have booths. Stop by and meet the campus leaders and sign up to be a member of their organization. Contact the Activities Council if you have any ideas as to events/activities that you would like to see on campus.
