Consultant of high-profile cases to speak at Lake Erie College

- Phillip Resnick, M.D. presents The Case of Texas vs. Andrea Yates: Insanity on Trial -

(Painesville, Ohio) – Internationally renowned psychiatrist, Phillip Resnick, M.D., will give a presentation entitled, “The Case of Texas v. Andrea Yates: Insanity on Trial,” at 7:30 p.m. on October 17 in Morley Music Hall located on the campus of Lake Erie College. After the presentation, time will be allotted for questions.
 
Resnick has served as a consultant or offered testimony in several high profile cases, including those of Jeffrey Dahmer, Susan Smith, Timothy McVeigh, Scott Peterson, Andrea Yates, Theodore Kaczynski, the Unabomber, and Charles McCoy, the Columbus I-270 sniper.
 
He is a professor of psychiatry and director for the Division of Forensic Psychiatry at Case School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Resnick also serves as director for the Court Psychiatric Clinic of Cuyahoga County and Cleveland as well as the Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at CWRU.
 
Resnick previously served as president of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, and has been a member of more than 15 associations or groups relevant to the field of psychiatry and/or law. He has given 25 major international and 115 major American presentations and has published more than 115 articles and book chapters. Additionally, Resnick has hosted more than 100 workshops on topics from the detection of malingering to the psychiatric predication of violence and the insanity defense to legal issues in mental health.
 
Earning his bachelor of art’s degree in psychology and doctor of medicine degree from CWRU, Resnick received post-graduate training with an internship at William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas, and a psychiatry residency with University Hospitals of Cleveland. Specialized education includes two years of study at CWRU’s School of Law, in criminal law, family law, torts, psychiatry and the law and evidence.
