LEC Equestrians Sweep Top Four Spots at Mini-Prix and Hunter Derby
Seven riders and their horses travelled from Lake Erie College to the University of Findlay to compete in the Mini-Prix and Hunter Derby, a three day event held September 24th through September 26th.
The USHJA (the national affiliate for hunters and jumpers also known as United States Hunter Jumper Association) International Hunter Derby Series was created to bring show hunters to the international level, increase spectator, media and sponsorship interest, and bring tradition and basic riding principles back to the sport of showing hunters.
Our Lake Erie College riders made a fantastic showing. Our ladies swept the top 4 slots in the opening stake class and managed to capture 3rd and 7th place in the Mini Prix.
During the Friday contest, Nicole Van Dyke rode on “LEC Willie” to take first place; Krystle Dahmer, on her horse “It Wasn't Me” snagged the second place slot; Courtney Newby on her horse “Queen of Hearts” took third and Katie Noonan on “LEC In the Sky” secured her spot for fourth place. Bailey Coloumbe on “LEC Skye” came on strong to secure the sixth place slot.
On Saturday, the girls continued the winning spirit with Katie Noonan riding on “LEC In the Sky” taking third, and Nicole Van Dyke riding on “LEC Willie” coming in at seventh place. Rounding out the weekend, senior Erin Daring captured 9th place out of 18 riders in the entire Hunter Derby to close the Sunday contests.
