Lake Erie College to honor local leaders with Distinguished Citizen of the Western Reserve Award
(May 11, 2009) – Lake Erie College will honor two area leaders who are achieving success and making an impact at the annual Distinguished Citizen of the Western Reserve awards dinner May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Kirtland Country Club.
Richard M. Osborne Sr. and Robert J. Shearer are this year’s honorees. Osborne is chairman of the board and chief executive officer (CEO) of Energy West, Incorporated, which distributes and sells natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Montana, Wyoming, Maine and North Carolina.
Osborne is also president and CEO of OsAir, Inc.; chairman of both the Northeast Ohio Natural Gas Corporation and Orwell Natural Gas Company; chairman of the board, CEO and a director of John D. Oil and Gas Company; and chairman of the board of Corning Natural Gas Corporation.
Sheareris the chief executive officer (CEO) of Shearer’s Foods, Inc., the manufacturer and distributor of Shearer’s award-winning snacks. As CEO, Shearer is responsible for developing the culture and guiding the expansion of the family-owned, 35-year-old company where the customer always comes first.
He has been recognized with numerous accolades, including being inducted into the Northeast Ohio Business Hall of Fame in November 2008 and receiving the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Northeast Ohio region.
To be considered as a candidate for this honor, individuals must exemplify the three areas of importance to Lake Erie College; tradition, excellence and service. They must work or reside in the Western Reserve, make a notable contribution to the community or region in the areas of service, philanthropy, business, education arts or healthcare, and uphold high moral standards.
