College loses beloved stallions

- Absolut and Phoenix

The Lake Erie College equestrian program recently lost two stallions – Absolut and Phoenix. Both stallions had been struggling with health issues and unfortunately lost their battles at the same time.

Absolut underwent thorough testing and several types of treatment to overcome bladder issues. A large mass was found and was determined to be inoperable. Born in 1990, Absolut was last bred to Poet in 2008. More information on Absolut can be found at http://www.lec.edu/equestrian/studfarm/absolut. Information on two of his offspring that are currently for sale can be found at http://www.lec.edu/equestrian/studfarm/sale.

Phoenix has been struggling with a seizure disorder for some time and his seizures had become quite violent with many occurring in the night. The College became quite concerned for the safety of the horse as well as the safety of humans handling him. Phoenix was born in 1982 and has not been used for breeding for several years.

Absolut and Phoenix will be greatly missed by the faculty, staff and the many students who have had the opportunity to work with them over the years. Both stallions will live on through their many offspring all around the country.
