LAKE HOSPITAL SYSTEM RECEIVES $25,000 GRANT FROM HEALTHY OHIOANS WORKSITE WELLNESS PROGRAM

Lake Hospital System and Lake Erie College Partner for a Healthier Workforce.

PAINESVILLE, OH, August 18, 2006 -- Lake Hospital System and Lake Erie College are joining forces to build a healthier workforce thanks to support from the State of Ohio's Healthy Ohioans Program, which awarded Lake Hospital System a $25,000 Worksite Wellness Partnership Grant. This grant provides funding for hospitals to partner with local businesses to help initiate Worksite Wellness programs to improve employee health.

Lake Hospital System will be working with Lake Erie College employees on a variety of health promotion initiatives and components. They include assessing and heading off employee health risks through individual lifestyle coaching and rewarding employees for making healthy choices. The traditional wellness activities like smoking cessation services, on-site nutrition counseling, weight loss and exercise programs will also be available. The wellness services will be delivered by an experienced and highly-skilled team of Lake Hospital System health professionals.

In the spring of 2005, the vision to create a comprehensive wellness program inclusive of weight management for businesses was introduced and explored through a partnership with Classic Auto Group, Lake Hospital System and Lake Erie College. With initial funding secured, a Health and Wellness Advisory Board was created. Issues, challenges and opportunities were discussed and next steps developed - this ultimately led the committee to apply for the Worksite Wellness Partnership Grant.

For Lake Erie College, this will be a new program offered to their employees in an effort to reward positive lifestyle changes. The Wellness Program will be housed in the college's new state-of-the-art Athletic and Wellness Center.

The Healthy Ohioans Program was created by Governor Bob Taft and the Ohio Department of Health, to increase awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The program supports nineteen hospitals in Ohio through grants totaling $500,000 which was awarded to the Foundation for Healthy Communities, an arm of the Ohio Hospital Association.
