College and City partner to welcome students back
Before the Lake Erie College student body gets back to the grind of classes and activities, they’ll be celebrating in the town square. The members of the Lake Erie College business group, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) have joined with the Downtown Painesville Organization and the City of Painesville to host the first-ever Welcome Back Concert Aug. 23, 2008 from 4-10 p.m. in Painesville Square.
The mission of the event is to build a partnership between the students of Lake Erie College and the City of Painesville. Free and open to both students and the public, the Welcome Back Concert will feature local rock bands with clean lyrical content, booths by local businesses and food vendors.
The entertainment line up includes some of the following: The Nick Zuber Band, Waco Day Camp, Retro 87’s, Coda and Heidi Longauer.
Proceeds from the Welcome Back Concert will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, which embodies the goals and ideas of SIFE, including helping the community and providing educational entrepreneurial experiences.
SIFE is a nonprofit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in a real working situation. SIFE challenges students on more than 800 college campuses nationwide to take what they're learning in the classroom and use their knowledge to better their communities. Guided by faculty advisors who are named Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellows in honor of the late Wal-Mart founder, SIFE Teams establish a variety of community outreach programs that teach free enterprise.
