Mastin scholarships available
High achieving students who enroll at Lake Erie College have the opportunity to apply for the prestigious Mastin Scholarship.
Mastin Scholarships of $10,000 each are available to incoming science or mathematics majors with high composite ACT (27+) or equivalent SAT scores or National Merit finalists. The students must also have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
The scholarships are renewable for three years, provided the recipients remain science or mathematics majors and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
About the funder:
Dr. Thomas W. Mastin had a successful 40-year career with the Lubrizol Corporation, during which he developed 20 patents and worked his way from research chemist to president and chairman of the board. Following his retirement from Lubrizol in 1982, Dr. Mastin directed his energies towards nature and conservation efforts.
He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Wabash College and his M.S. and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois. He served on the Lake Erie College Board of Directors from 1974 through 1983 and was an emeritus director from 1993 until his death in 1998. At Lake Erie, he established the Environmental Sciences Resource Information Center (ESRIC) and was instrumental in beginning the major in environmental sciences.
