Shaposka earns AMCC baseball Player of the Week honors
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Baseball Player of the Week for April 21 is Lake Erie College’s John Shaposka (Concord, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian). He is the third Storm player to be recognized by the conference this season.
The junior second baseman started in eight of nine games played during the week and led the Storm with a .542 (13-for-24) batting average with eight doubles, seven runs, 10 RBIs and six walks. He helped Lake Erie go 6-3 for the week, including a 5-1 record in AMCC play as the team earned its first above .500 league record at 10-8, while also earning its first bid to the conference tournament after sweeping Hilbert and Penn State-Altoona.
Shaposka compiled an on base percentage of .613 with a slugging percentage of .875. His eight doubles for the week give him 14 on the season, which is only two shy of tying the Storm’s single season record. For the season, he is the AMCC’s sixth leading hitter at .430 and is second in doubles.
In the Storm’s six years in the AMCC, only five additional players have been recognized with weekly league honors, including players of the week Steve Walczak on April 10, 2006, Brandon Heritage on March 24, 2003 and Harry Konrad on March 26, 2008. Jon Gibson earned pitcher of the week status on April 5, 2004 as well as Seth Baumberger on March 26, 2008.
