Puda named ECAC Player of the Week
After being named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Softball Player of the Week on March 31, Lake Erie College freshman third baseman Katie Puda (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) has now been named East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Player of the Week.
The first-year player is the first Storm team member to earn the ECAC accolade this season, while being just the fourth player in program history to earn the honor.
Puda helped Lake Erie improve its winning streak to six games after a 4-0 week in which she hit .833 in 12 at bats. Of her 10 hits, eight were for extra bases, including three home runs. Her first home run of the week came in game two against AMCC rival Hilbert as a solo shot. She then picked up two more round trippers in game one against Frostburg State as a three-run bomb in the fourth and a solo blast in the fifth. She also led the Storm with nine runs and 13 RBIs while helping the team maintain the leader spot in the AMCC with an undefeated record of 6-0.
Since the Storm’s most recent outing on April 2, Puda is the team’s second-leading hitter at .449. She is tied as the team leader in RBIs with 21 and has the most extra base hits with 14, including eight doubles, one triple and five home runs.
In AMCC history, Puda is the second Lake Erie player to earn conference player of the week honors this season, as well as the ninth in program history.
