Konrad, Baumberger make history for Storm
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors went to Lake Erie College’s Harry Konrad (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Seth Baumberger (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) as announced on March 25. It is the first time in program history the Storm has had multiple honors in the same season, not to mention during the same week.
Sophomore Konrad earned the AMCC Player of the Week nod for the first time in his career after a standout offensive week that included two home runs and a team-leading five runs batted in. The second-year player started all four games at either designated hitter or catcher and went 6-for-11 for an average of .546. He hit his first home run of the season in a 6-1 win against conference foe Pitt-Greensburg, helping to lead the Storm to its first victory of the season. He followed with his second round tripper of the year in the second game against the Bobcats as a three-run shot to tie the game at four in the bottom of the third inning.
Currently, Konrad is hitting .417 on the season and is second in the AMCC in slugging percentage at .750.
Senior right-hander Baumberger earned pitcher of the week honors for the first time in his career after going 4.2 innings with three strikeouts and no earned runs in the win against Greensburg. It was his and the team’s first victory of the season. In two appearances for the week, he gave up no earned runs in 6.1 innings to finish with an ERA of 0.00.
In the Storm’s five years in the AMCC, only three players have been recognized with weekly league honors, including players of the week Steve Walczak on April 10, 2006 and Brandon Heritage on March 24, 2003. Jon Gibson earned pitcher of the week status on April 5, 2004.
