Thornton and Campbell named to All-AMCC Team

The Lake Erie College men’s basketball team placed two players on the 2008 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Team. Junior forwards Derrick Thornton (University Heights, Ohio/Lutheran East) and Darnell Campbell (Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood) were voted first and second-team, respectively.

Thornton, who started all 28 games for the 18-9 Storm, led the team in scoring (16.7), rebounding (6.3) and steals (2.4). Voted AMCC Player of the Week and D3Hoops.com Team of the Week during the regular season, he finished the year ranked in the top 10 of the AMCC in seven statistical categories. He was second in steals, field goal percentage (56.2%) and free throw percentage (81.3%). He was sixth in offensive rebounds (2.4) and seventh in defensive rebounds (3.9) and overall rebounds. Thornton has made the All-AMCC First-Team two consecutive seasons.

Campbell started in 23 games this season averaging 12.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as the second highest ranking Storm player in both categories. In the AMCC, he ranked 11th in scoring and 14th in rebounding. Additionally, he ranked among the top 15 players in five other categories, including fourth in field goal percentage (53.8%), ninth in free throw percentage (71.3%), ninth in blocks (0.6), 14th in offensive rebounds (1.5) and 15th in defensive rebounds (3.0). This is Campbell’s second appearance on the All-AMCC Second-Team.
