Bethel honored again by ESPN The Magazine
For the second consecutive season, Lake Erie College women’s soccer player Angela Bethel (Beavercreek, Ohio/Miami Valley) was selected as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second-Team selection for the District 4 College Division.
The junior forward led the Storm in all offensive categories this season with 18 goals, six assists and 42 points. She recorded two hat tricks, taking her career total to 11, while also becoming the program’s all-time leader in goals (70) and points (160). The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) First-Team selection is majoring in business administration and mathematics and has a 3.79 grade point average.
She first earned the honor with the 2006 season, becoming the first player from Lake Erie to do so. This season’s honor makes her the first player to ever receive the honor in consecutive seasons.
In order to be eligible for the honor, players must make a significant contribution to a varsity team, be in at least their second year of college and have a cumulative grade point average above a 3.20. A player must also be nominated by their school’s sports information director. SIDs from across the country then vote and players with the greatest number of votes received are divided into three teams.
In the District 4 College Division this season, a total of 35 players were honored – 13 on the first and third teams and nine on the second team. Bethel was one of just 10 forwards to receive the honor.
