Lake Erie softball makes debut at #5 in Regional pollsThe Lake Erie College softball team made its debut on the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Regional polls this week, making its mark at #5 in the Central Region. This is the first appearance in the polls for the team, whose regional record is 19-4-1. Also ranked in the Central Region is former National Champions and last year’s National Runners-up, Muskingum College at #1. DePauw University is #2, Transylvania University is #3 and Hope College is #4 to round out the top five.
The Storm’s overall record of 23-12-1 is the best record in the seven-year history of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. LEC finished AMCC regular-season play at third in conference standings. The team begins conference tournament play, Saturday, April 29, hosting Medaille College. The entry into the tournament is also a first the women’s team. Under fourth-year head coach Gary Van Cauwenberge, the team has exceeded expectations from the AMCC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which picked the Storm to finish eighth.
