Steven Gutierrez to Showcase Piece at Ingenuity Festival in ClevelandSteven Gutierrez, Assistant Professor of Digital Media at Lake Erie College, has been accepted to showcase his piece at this year's Ingenuity Festival September 20-22.
His piece "Symbiosis" will demonstrate the symbiotic relationship we have with trees. In symbiosis, Gutierrez projects visuals of oxygen and carbon dioxide that follows the passing audience using video tracking methods. In this way, they can actually see the gas exchange between the virtual trees and themselves.
"I hope that by allowing the viewers to see the oxygen and carbon dioxide projected and interacting with the audience, everyone will be reminded that humans need plants to be able to breathe."
In addition to this piece, Gutierrez with integrated media, digital art and technology major Chas Irish, worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland to make another art project within the environmental theme. They taught kids from age five through 16 what art and technology is about, how it relates to the environment and how to solder and work with solar panels.
The festival is free and open to the public. It is located on the lakefront north of the FirstEnergy (Browns) Stadium and the Great Lakes Science Center. For hours and directions, click here.
