Physician Assistant Program Director Joe Weber Joins Free Clinic Board(Painesville, Ohio) – Lake Erie College Director of the Physician Assistant (PA) Program Joe Weber has recently been elected to the Board of Trustees for the Lake County Free Clinic in Painesville.
Weber has formed a partnership with the Lake County Free Clinic, specifically executive director Johanna Henz, to develop a training site for Lake Erie College’s PA students needing clinical experience.
Free clinics provide real-world experience in a somewhat nontraditional setting. The Free Clinic will give students a chance to see patients who do not have insurance and lack access to the "basic” health care that is accessible to those insured.
"We are very pleased to have formalized an agreement with Lake Erie College’s PA program. The clinic looks forward to taking students when the inaugural class is ready to complete field placements,” said Henz.
The Lake Erie College PA Program planning and implementation is progressing smoothly. There has been an overwhelming support from a number of area physicians and medical facilities. In addition, the College is nearing completion of the new PA Learning Suite (to be completed in April 2013) consisting of faculty offices, classrooms and laboratory space. The program faculty and staff are currently working to complete the documents required for the accreditation process which will conclude in September 2013.
"The physician assistant field is experiencing explosive growth of approximately 30 percent per year. Key partnerships such as what we have with the Free Clinic are what will help us provide our students with the tools they need to stand out in such a competitive field. We are pleased to have an enthusiastic and skilled team carry out this program for us,” said Lake Erie College President Michael T. Victor.
