Department of Theatre Opens Season with Two One Act Plays(Painesville, Ohio) – The Lake Erie College Department of Theatre will open its season with two one act plays, "Rats” and "Stage Directions” by famous American writer Israel Horovitz. The plays will be presented on February 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. and February 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the C.K. Rickel Theatre in the Royce Hall for the Fine and Performing Arts.
Directed by Lake Erie College Instructor of Education Matt Thiesen, "Rats” depicts two rats engaged in a power struggle, where young and old are pitted in a fight for their very survival. Actors in this play include students Emily Ingle, Addy Fraser and Cole Leonberg.
"Stage Directions” tells the story of three siblings in mourning for a lost parent and depicts their eccentric way of communicating. This play is directed by senior Richard Keay and includes 2011 alumnus Joseph Fath and community actors Sarah Parker and Sarah Mzik.
As the author of numerous plays staged in New York and throughout Europe, Horovitz has won numerous awards for his work, including two Obie Awards, the Drama Desk Award and The Sony Radio Academy Award.
The plays are presented free and open to the community. No reservations are necessary. Royce Hall for the Fine and Performing Arts is easily accessible from the Lake Erie College campus, 391 W. Washington Street, Painesville. Free parking is available at the Gillett Street entrance.
