Lake Erie College Pre-Service Teacher Candidates Prepare for Future(Painesville, Ohio) – Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education Dr. Katharine Delavan is serving as a higher education participant in cohort 3 of the Ohio Performance Based Assessment Pilot Project (OPAPP). For the next two years (beginning this September), Dr. Delavan’s group of 20 pre-service (still in college, not yet licensed) teacher candidates will participate in OPAPP in an effort to document the new set of skills tomorrow’s teachers need to be prepared for the classroom. The candidates will learn how to write, implement and score learning and summative assessment tasks online through TaskStream. The group makes up the only pre-service teachers participating in this project; their work will inform the state and nation of best practices in teacher preparation. Preliminary findings will be presented at the Fall 2012 Ohio Confederation of Teacher Education Organizations Conference in Columbus on October 25.
