Linnea Swanson graduated
from Lake Erie College in May 2011, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Equine
Facility Management with a minor in Business Administration and a concentration
in Stud Farm Management. As a student, Linnea was a member of the Intercollegiate
Combined Training Association, serving as Vice President her senior year. She
was also a representative to the Equine Leadership Council, recipient of the
2010 Laddie’s Legacy Cup Sportsmanship Award, served as Sponsorship Coordinator
for the 2011 Prix de Villes and as a liaison for the 2011 Dressage Derby of
Ohio. After graduation, Linnea continued work at the Lake Erie College
Equestrian Center serving as an assistant in the Equestrian Office and Barn, as
an Adjunct Faculty Member and as Equine Event Advertising, Promotions and
Donations Manager. Linnea stepped in to the Director of Horse Care position in
July of 2012.
A
native of Northeast Ohio, Linnea rides and competes in the jumpers as well as
occasionally dabbling in eventing. Always up for a challenge, she particularly
enjoys riding and training the ‘feisty’ and ‘spirited’ horses. Linnea and her
Spotted Saddle Horse mare, Poet’s Jasmine, have successfully shown in the low
adult jumpers, including placing individually at the Prix de Villes.
As Director of Horse
Care, Linnea is responsible for the overall health and well being of the Lake
Erie College school horses. Some of her responsibilities include creating the
school horse’s daily exercise schedules, administering necessary supplements,
medications and vaccines, managing nutritional needs, creating farrier
schedules, providing veterinary assistance, managing injuries and
rehabilitation, as well as working with students during their time in the
barn.
