Social Sciences

Lake Erie College’s major in the Social Sciences allows students with a broad set of interests to draw on coursework from numerous areas within the Social Sciences area: history, political science, psychology, economics, and sociology.

It offers breadth of disciplinary tools used to analyze and understand human behavior in individuals, in societies, in nations, and positions graduates to take on roles in government, business, and education, among others, with tremendous success.






The major in social sciences consists of several basic courses taken in common by all students majoring in this area, plus a concentration in history or sociology. The social science major is designed to give students breadth as well as depth and provides the background necessary for law school, graduate study in social work or graduate work in the social sciences.

Requirements for this Major:

52 semester credits including:

and 12 semester credits from the following:

any 100-level History courses (4 SH)

any 100-level Sociology course (4 SH)

and 16 200-level credits (representing at least two of the following disciplines: economics, history, political science, psychology, or sociology)

and 12 300-level credits (representing the following different disciplines: economics, history, political science, psychology, or sociology)

and four additional 300 or 400-level credits in one of those areas of concentration.
